Welcome to our August digital roundup. Each month we cover any platform developments you need to know, you can read them below.
New INP Measurement Help Websites with Popups
Google’s latest update on the Core Web Vitals (CWV) and Page Experience ranking factors has brought some exciting improvements. According to the June 2024 Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX), website performance scores have improved overall. This includes better Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measurements, especially for sites using popups. These enhancements mean that websites are becoming more user-friendly and efficient. Even though Page Experience might have a minor impact on rankings, these changes are great for boosting conversions and ad clicks. Keep an eye on these metrics to stay ahead!
Cookie Cutter?
Google has decided not to phase out third-party cookies in Chrome as initially planned. Instead, they will introduce a new system allowing users to manage their privacy settings directly. This shift comes after extensive feedback from stakeholders, including regulators and industry participants. Google remains committed to its Privacy Sandbox initiative, aiming to enhance privacy while maintaining functionality for advertisers. This change will have significant implications for the digital advertising industry, as strategies will need to be adjusted in response to this new approach.
Reddit has introduced Lead Generation Ads in a public beta, making this new ad format available globally for advertisers directly partnering with the platform. This launch is significant for businesses seeking to enhance their advertising strategies and engage more effectively with Reddit’s extensive user base.
TikTok finally adds cover images
TikTok has dominated short-form video since the app rose in popularity during the pandemic, however, one feature that Instagram Reels has always had the upper hand with is cover images on videos. But TikTok has finally added an “Upload Cover Image” option for videos on its platform.
This could be another step in its movement to enable an easier search on its app, as they move to be seen as more of a search engine than a social media site. Previously the platform has taken actions to encourage content creators to focus on their videos in search and there has been a lot of noise around TikTok as a search engine and SEO of TikTok videos.
LinkedIn is booming
LinkedIn has reported a record level of engagement on the platform and claims that 1.5 million pieces of content are shared every minute in the app. Some things you could do to step up your LinkedIn social media marketing game are:
- Post industry insights, not just personal or company updates
- Crosspost content you created for other social media platforms and track performance
- Use polls to find out more about your followers/connections
- Use LinkedIn’s version of carousels to share valuable tips and advice
- Experiment with videos
