A good social media strategy is so important in this day and age. You’ll need to have your strategy all planned out in order to stay ahead of the competition and spread awareness about your brand.

Here are a few tips to help you improve your social media strategy.

Take a step back

Before you do anything else, take a step back and look at your social media. Go back through old posts and take a look at what has been popular in the past. Have there been certain tweets, posts and images that have made more of an impact on your followers than others? You can learn a lot from what has worked in the past.

View it along with the rest of your marketing strategy

How does social media fit in with the rest of your marketing plan and goals. It’s always a good idea to re-evaluate your social activities based on the goals you’ve set for your business as a whole. Is the rest of your marketing activity based on driving traffic to your website, generating new leads or getting people to try your services?

If you can ensure your social media strategy is heading towards the same objectives as the rest of your marketing activities then you’re going to get even more benefit from the work you’re doing.

Keep your branding consistent

You should do you best to keep your brand consistent across all social platforms. This means the same user icon, cover images and colours. Doing this will help users to recognise your brand wherever they go.

Focus on engaging with the people who already follow you

It’s easy to get too caught up on the follower and like counts when it comes to your social media. If you’ve already built a half decent following then perhaps try and focus your efforts on engaging with those people.

It’s going to be a lot easier to turn those people into customers than it will be to find new followers and build trust from scratch. The people who follow you have already shown an interest in your brand and you should capitalise on this. Make sure you include an engagement strategy in your social media plan.

Engaging with people may mean you get included in #FollowFriday shout outs or that your posts get shared. This is a great way to gain organic, high-quality followers without much effort on your part.

Encourage sharing and discussion

One way people are going to pay more attention to your posts is if you encourage discussion. Ask people what they think, get them to contribute and start a conversation going. You should reply to their responses and create a rapport.

This helps your followers to see that the brand is backed by real people and in turn creates trust.

Get visual

No matter what social networks you use, you’ll benefit from posting images and videos where possible. Track how well these posts do because you’ll probably see a higher engagement and click-through rate on any posts that have some sort of visual stimuli included in them.
