Pinterest have decided to try something new and are giving all users three secret boards that can be found at the bottom of your profile.

These boards are great for people who might need to keep their inspiration a secret. Perhaps you are planning a surprise party and need to collect ideas without giving the game away. Or maybe you are planning for a new addition to the family and want to keep things private.

These secret boards mean you can use Pinterest as a source of inspiration just for yourself. The secret boards can be shared if you want to give someone the URL but they won’t be found in the search results, nor will those pins show up on your profile.

Collaborators can also be invited so you could work on a wedding inspiration board with your other half without everyone seeing what’s catching your eye.

This could also be useful for business owners who want to use the site for inspiration. The board can be shared at a later date for customer engagement if you wish. It also gives those using Pinterest for business the opportunity to completely fill a board before sharing it with the rest of the world.

This is a great way to ensure there’s all the information you need in a board before letting other people see it.

Another advantage of using the secret boards around this time of year is planning for Christmas gifts. You can keep your entire gift list for family and friends in one place without them ever knowing what you’re up to.

One downside is that you can’t hide boards you’ve already created because people may have already pinned images from it.

The secret boards feature is available online and also via the Pinterest app. When you visit your profile via the app, select the boards tab then scroll down to ‘Create Secret Board’. It’s that simple.
